Well, it’s official. My husband and I are selling our house, and although I am supposed to be working on preparing our current house, I rather dream of craft ideas to decorate our new home. It’s hard not to be excited about having a blank canvas to create all of my favorite craft ideas in my new home. Sure, we’ll have all of our old furniture and knickknacks, but a bigger house with a different layout is honestly this shrewd woman’s dream!
So while I should paint my room and tidy up our clutter, I’m busy on Pinterest, Flickr, and Google researching the best interior decorating projects and craft ideas. I’m creating a virtual manila folder full of craft ideas I’d love to try out in my new home and thought I’d share them with you so you can spruce up your existing home or dream about your future home too!

1. Small art is great art
One idea that I have long found intriguing is to use a bunch of smaller framed prints and hang them in a grid to create the effect of a larger framed piece of art. This could be done relatively inexpensively using scraps of fabric, wallpaper, gift wrap, or scrapbooking papers, and what a statement that would make.
2. Painted glass bottles
Simple projects can sometimes give elegant results, like these painted wine bottles. Any glass container will do – old mason jars, soda bottles, jars of mayonnaise – and all you need is painter’s tape and spray paint. I also love the idea of ​​using dye to create a solid color rug that matches my bedroom.
4. False mirror in “mercury glass”
Mercury glass is a type of vintage glass that was made by adding silver during the glass making process to create a silvery sheen on the glass. Modern mercury glass home accessories can also be purchased at stores like West Elm and Terrain. Or you can create your own vintage-inspired “mercury glass” using this tutorial. It’s on my to-do list.
5. Nail and thread art
Here’s another neat idea for creating wall art without spending a ton of money – while still using skills you likely learned in summer camp. All it takes is wire, basic materials, and tools like nails, a hammer, and a level. I already have enough unused thread to line the walls of a mansion!
